Something shocking about the Year of the Fire Boar
Happy Chinese New Year to you!
2007 is the year of the "Fire Boar" (that sounds better than the term "red pig").
Anyways, I am going to reveal something that will shock you..
As you know, Chinese New Year Day officially occured on Sunday February 18, 2007 00:14 in China.
However, that means, if you live on West Coast of Canada/United States, Chinese New Year Day is on Saturday February 17, 2007 08:14PST (a day earlier than what most people tell you).
Shocking.. eh?

While the Western calendar is based on the sun (a solar calendar -- ie. how many times the earth revolves around the sun), the Chinese calendar is based on the moon (a lunar calendar -- ie. one complete phase cycle of a moon from new moon to full moon back to new moon). From the earth's point of view, the first new moon of 2007 (and there can only be one) occured exactly 14 minutes after midnight on February 18, 2007 in China.
